Young Tigers notch second win with 20-16 victory over Wrens A 70-yard run off-tackle by Deon Jackson late in the game put it away for the Washington-Wilkes Middle School Tigers last Thursday as they regained the lead and captured the win over Wrens last Thursday evening at Tiger Stadium. It was Jackson's second touchdown of the game and secured the young Tigers' second win of the season. The game got off to a bang when Eric Scott sprinted 60 yards on the first play of the game for the first W-W touchdown. Then, after recovering an onsides kick, the Tigers quickly marched down the field and Jackson notched his first TD of the game. A two-point conversion made the lead 14-0 and that would last until intermission. "They (Wrens) put something in them at the half and they came out and went up 16-14," Head Coach Don Keiser said of the second half turnaround. And it could have been worse except for a good defensive effort. "Our defense held them twice on our 3-yard line and that was big stuff," Keiser commented. The Wrens 16-14 lead lasted until about four minutes to go when Jackson broke the 70-yarder to win the game. Also along the way, quarterback Teverous Jones completed a 45-yard pass to Desmond Jackson.
The W-WMS Tigers will travel to Oglethorpe County today (September 21) to face the Patriots at 5 p.m. They will return home for an intersquad scrimmage on October 5 before hosting Madison County on October 12 beginning at 5 p.m.
