SOUTHERN FRIED FOOTBALL Last Saturday had more important games than this old analyst has ever seen on a date so early in the season. Florida made a positive statement in Knoxville, Clemson in Tallahassee, Louisville and Auburn at home. Negative statements were made by Mississippi State who was kicked around by Tulane and South Carolina who barely beat Division i-AA Wofford. There are some good matches on tap this week. Here's how I see 'em. Georgia Tech over Virginia by 14 - The Cavaliers should change their name to "Caviar" since everyone is feasting on them. Louisville over Kansas State by 20 - If you don't think the Cardinals are for real, give Larry Coker a call in Miami. Clemson over North Carolina by 17 - Even with a letdown following the big win in Tallahassee, the Tigers should easily handle UNC. Florida over Kentucky by 17 - The Wildcats are improved, but the Gators have dreams of a National Title. FSU over Rice by 32 - The Noles take out their frustration on the overmatched Owls. Auburn over Buffalo by 50 - What masochist scheduled this mismatch?
Virginia Tech over Cincinnati by 26 - The Hokies tune up for next week's Georgia Tech clash. Boston College over N.C. State by 7 - Wolfpack faithful are disgusted. State's only win this year came against a 1-AA foe. Georgia over Colorado by 28 - The Dawgs continue to improve. They just might be better than Tennessee and Florida. Alabama over Arkansas by 8 - The Tide floods Fayetteville with a stifling defense. Upset - Wake Forest over Ole Miss by 4 - Wake is a pretty good football team. The Rebels resemble the Confederate Army at the end of the war. UAB over Mississippi State by 10 - How much worse can it get for Dog head man Sylvester Croom?
South Carolina over Florida Atlantic by 18 - Florida Atlantic is no match for a Gamecock club which seems to be going backwards. The Owls are just what the doctor ordered for the beleaguered "Old Ball Coach."
