Aonia News I spent Sunday late evening in the ER in Augusta at the University Hospital. I am sorry there is not too much news at this time. I feel better but will have more tests. I attended Aunt Jenelle"s (Newsome) 85th birthday reception at the Rider House and enjoyed it very much. It was a lovely party. The home was restored a few years back and is beautiful. It was the home of Mr. and Mrs. Rufus Rider who are parents of Jane Newsome and Jo Randall. Jane and Jo were reared in it. Thomas Charping and Joe Charping did the work on it and did a super job. I visited my doctors in Augusta four days last week; went to Lincolnton to "help" with my dad and stayed close to home the other short time I had to be home. My dad was feeling some better, and I am feeling much better. Mr. and Mrs. James Casey of Cedartown visited most of the Newsomes Sunday and Monday. They, along with Mr. and Mrs. Jack Newsome, Mrs. Jerry King of Fletcher, N.C., and Mrs. Brian Miester of Harlem attended the reception honoring Aunt Jenelle. G.B. was unable to go due to his back problems. Church at Ebenezer was good Sunday with a good attendance. Rev. Huyck's sermon was "The Golden Rule" taken from Matthew 7:12. We had a lovely parent-child dedication service for Addison Carter Owen, infant son of John and Renee Matthews Owen. They also have an older child, Lawson. Both babies are so cute. Both John and Renee had their families present. I'm sorry I did not get their names. Flowers were placed by Mr. and Mrs. Newton Gunter and they were very pretty. The Ebenezer Youth and Choir met at Washington Manor Sunday afternoon. Don't forget the Tignall Baptist Church will host the Senior Adult Rally for the Georgia Baptist Association on October 9 at 3 p.m. Come and bring a friend. It will be a blessing. Happy appreciation day to all our pastors and clergy on October 8. We love our preachers. Mt. Zion United Methodist Church honored Billy Dunnaway with a lifetime service award for being a good and faithful servant for way over 50 years. He's held the job of superintendent for a long time; treasurer for over 50 years; plus other positions held in the church. Congratulations, Mr. Billy. Special guests of Mrs. Jenelle C. Newsome were Rev. and Mrs. Jim Newsome of Vero Beach, Fla.; Ricky Newsome and daughter Jenna of Springfield, Va.; Mr. and Mrs. David Peek (Mindy Newsome), also of Vero Beach; Mr. and Mrs. Dennis D'Avila (Cari) of Ft. Worth, Texas; Mr. and Mrs. Jamie Newsome and Anna of Martinez; Mrs. Kim Cofer of Savannah; Keith and Tommy Boswell of Savannah; Mrs. Stephanie Meyer of Greenville, S.C., and Mrs. Dorothy Johnson of Mitchell. Nan and Darcy Newsome of Springfield, Va., were unable to come due to jobs and another engagement. We missed them at the party. Y'all know how I love Lincoln County. If not, I do. My "home" is still right on Chamberlain Ferry Road where my parents still live. I am so sorry the Red Devils of LCHS lost the football game but I am proud of the way they played. I think they won every way except by the score. They really played well and I'd like to take this opportunity to say so. Rev. and Mrs. Jim Newsome of Vero Beach, Fla., Rick Newsome and Jenna Newsome returned home Tuesday after visiting their mother and grandmother, Mrs. Jenelle Newsome, for several days. Sincere sympathy to all who recently lost loved ones. Our prayers reach out to you all. Our prayer concerns include Mary Will Denard, Joe Griffin, Jimmy Demastes, Barney Albert Aycock Jr., Mary Rogers, Mary Ruff, Willie Ruth B. Freeman, Gary and Shirley Haynie, Eddie and Carol Howard, Mildred Marett (Bob's mother), Mona Hall, Mr. and Mrs. James Lee, Henry N. and Blanche Wallace, Grace Dunaway, Morrison and Priscilla Maxwell, James and Samille Sherrer, Juanita Bradford, Trudy B. Sutherland, Aniece Butler, Warren and Lois Nun, Claire Nelson, Linda Albea, Ethel Harris, Dot Shank, Lois South, Ed Burdette, Barbara Burdette, Jack Strother, J.D. Crawford, Ann and
Wade Palmer, Lila Edwards, Ann Hardy, Mrs. Anna Ray Yearwood, Annette T. Neal, Emogene Bland, Mike Webb, John Louie Bray, Gary Rogers, Barry Bailey and family, the family of Suzanne Newsome (Mrs. Bobby), and the family of Mayfelda Bradford Arnett. Happy birthday to all those celebrating a birthday this week. The ones I am aware of are Jenelle Cofer Newsome, October 3; Rev. Albert Huyck, October 6; Bobby Myers, Donna Charping, Jack Strother, and Clinton Albea. We hope all have a very happy day. Our visitors for the week and weekend were Mr. and Mrs. Nick Gaines, Shannon Thomason, Taylor McAvoy, West Butler, and Burt Newsome. Trace and Tanner spent the weekend with G.B. and me. Trace also visited Pat Rogers for a day and night. We all visited Mr. and Mrs. Henry Wallace in Lincoln County Sunday. Pray for our pastor search committee as they strive to get a pastor for Ebenezer Baptist Church. Rev. Albert Huyck has been with us almost 10 years and we really will miss him, but he promises to visit and I know he will be praying for us as well.
