Amberly Aycock entertained at drop-in shower October 1

Amberly Aycock of Lincolnton, bride-elect of Phil Roberts, was entertained at a drop-in shower on Sunday afternoon, October 1, in the Mary Callaway Burton Fellowship Hall of the First Baptist Church. Hostesses for the occasion were Jayne Callaway, Penny Callaway, Judy Coxwell, Melissa Grant, India Harris, Susan Nunn, Susan Pope, Phyllis Scarborough, Emilie Waters and Vonice Wells of Washington, Ann Hansford of Watkinsville and Kathy Lee of Elberton.

The bride-elect was lovely in a sleeveless brown and white polka dot wrap dress fashioned with cap sleeves. She was presented a corsage of yellow roses.

Lush ferns on white columns flanked the entrance to the fellowship hall. Inside, corners were enhanced with clusters of ferns on varying heights of white pedestals. Black wrought iron furniture formed a seating area for the bride-elect to receive her guests and open gifts.

Two round tables covered in floorlength bronze cloths and overlaid with olive green squares accented with hanging corner crystal balls covered these tables. A round center elevated table connected the two. This elevated setting was covered and puddled in the bronze and olive green. Extending from this table was a very tall cherub urn holding an elegant flowing arrangement of red tipped yellow roses, hypericum berries, bells of Ireland, spider lilies, Burgundy mums, yellow pompons and ferns.

From the refreshment tables guests enjoyed punch with decorated cake squares, cheese straws, heart-shaped mints and cashews served from crystal and silver appointments.

During the party guests were invited to sign the bride's book placed on an ornate square antique table. Decorating this table was a smaller cherub urn holding flowers matching those on the center refreshment table.

The hostesses presented the brideelect a Tiffany-style lamp sporting a Clemson University tiger paw. This was displayed with other gifts on a long extended table covered in white and overlaid in green.

The bride-elect presented each hostess a loaf of iced spice cake wrapped and tied with a decorative wired ribbon in fall colors.

Seventy-eight guests were invited. Among the special guests attending were the bride-elect's mother, Velda Aycock, aunt and cousin, Fran Spratlin and Caroline, and cousin, Laura Spratlin, all of Lincolnton; the prospective bridegroom's mother, Barbara Roberts of Washington, and sister, Katie Bailey of Central, S.C.
