SOUTHERN FRIED FOOTBALL The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets really turned some heads last week by thumping Virginia Tech on the road. Clemson scored over 50 points for the third time this season. The War Eagles found out what it is like to be in a pit with fired-up Gamecocks. The Georgia Dawgs continue to struggle on offense. This week some of the South's biggest rivalries take place. Here's the way I see 'em: Florida State over N.C. State by 3 - The Wolfpack should beat the spread and possibly win this game. Tennessee over by Georgia by 3 - Tereshinski's return will not be enough to defeat the Vols. Clemson over Wake Forest by 14 - Believe it or not, Wake has won two of the last three against Clemson. That won't be the case this time. Miami over North Carolina by 21 - One of the worst Tar Heel teams in many years gets popped in the Orange Bowl. Georgia Tech over Maryland by 14 - The Yellow Jackets turned some heads with the big in at Virginia Tech. Maryland will not be able to derail the Jackets' run to the Division title. Auburn over Arkansas by 21 - Ole Claude doesn't think this one will be as close as many suspect. Alabama over Duke by 31 - Duke is probably the worst team in the South. UPSET # 1 - Florida over LSU by 7 - LSU is a slight favorite, but this Florida team is not going to be drowned in the Swamp by a bunch of Tigers from the Bayou. East Carolina over Virginia by 6 - The win over Duke was just a brief respite for the beleagured Cavaliers. UPSET # 2 - Kentucky over South Carolina by 3 - The hangover following the close loss to Auburn is too much for the Gamecocks to overcome.
Vandy over Ole Miss by 8 - How long has it been since Vanderbilt was favored over the Rebels in Oxford? Probably the 1920's.
