American Legion Post 194, Lincolnton, will present the Coastline Band with Jim Quick for a dance on Saturday, October 14, 8:30 p.m.-12:30 a.m. The band has been named the Carolina Beach Music Entertainer of the year five times and is also winner of the 2005 Blues Single of the Year and National Shag Song, "Sweet Mama Do Right." The Wilkes County Sunday School Union will convene with Pleasant Grove Baptist Church October 27-29. Rev. James McIver will be the host pastor. Jamie Johnson is president.

Friends of the Mary Willis Library will meet Thursday, October 19, 3 p.m., in the conference room at the library. The program will feature the new library director, Lillie Crowe, and her staff.

October is Friends of the Library enrollment emphasis. Visit the Mary Willis Library Tuesday or Friday from 1-3 p.m. and become a Friend.

The Old School Reunion will meet Saturday, October 14, 11:30 a.m., at the Third Shiloh Center, 219 McLendon Drive, Washington.

The Wilkes County Board of Health will meet Friday, October 20, 11 a.m., at the Wilkes County Health Center on Hospital Drive.

The Washington Woman's Club Yard Sale will be Saturday, October 28, at the clubhouse beginning at 8 a.m., rain or shine. The club will accept donations from the community for the sale. To donate or get more information, contact Kathy Overstreet, project chairman, at 706-678- 7461.

Young's Chapel Baptist Church will have men and women's day Sunday, October 15, 4 p.m. Rev. E.L. Merriweather from Warrenton will be the guest speaker. Refreshments will be served.

Plans are being made for the annual Binns, Butler, and Ferrell Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners. Anyone who would like to participate should contact Nellie Mills at 706-678-7014 or Sadrina Binns at 706-401-0119.

The annual Rotary Pancake Supper will be held Friday, October 20, at the Washington- Wilkes Elementary School Cafeteria. Time is 5:30-7:30 p.m., and tickets are available from Rotarians or at the door.

The Washington Presbyterian Church will have its annual Fall Special Services October 15-17. The Sunday evening service on October 15 will begin with a covered dish supper at 6 p.m., and the worship service at 7 p.m. Services on October 16 and 17 will begin at 7 p.m.

Tabor Baptist Church will have revival services October 22-25, 7 p.m. Sunday morning services will begin at 10:30 a.m. Homecoming will be Sunday, October 22, 10:30 a.m.

There will be a County Cooking Supper at Fishing Creek Baptist Church Saturday, October 21, from 6 to 8:30 p.m. All you can eat for $6.00 per plate. All proceeds go to charity.

The October meeting of the Civil War Round Table of Washington will be Monday, October 23, 6 p.m., in the Fitzpatrick Hotel Restaurant. The meeting is $10 per person and includes dinner. Guest speaker will be Ken Griffith of Atlanta speaking on "The Battle of Atlanta." For reservations e-mail ccarolcartledge@hotmail.com. The meetings are held the fourth Monday of each month except in December.

The Washington Lions Club will have chicken barbecue plates for sale on Saturday, October 28, from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. Tickets are $6.00 each and may be obtained from any member of the club or by calling Mary Hubbard, president, at 706-678-2422. Orders may also be called in on the day of the sale at 706-678-2951.

Family and Friends Day will be held at Pompey's Chapel Baptist Church on the Lundberg Road Sunday, November 5, 2:30 p.m. Pastor Darrell Brantley and the Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church and Choir of Thomson are in charge.

The Wilkes County Baptist Church Fall Festival will be held Saturday, October 21, 4-6 p.m. There will be food, games, and all are free to all.

There will be a Washington- Wilkes Little League meeting October 16, 6:30 p.m., in the upstairs office at Ashley Park. The ending business for 2006 will be discussed and new officers will be elected for the 2007 season. Anyone who has questions should call Tommy Saggus at 706-293-4434.

The gospel singing group Safe Harbor will be in concert at the First Assembly of God in Lincolnton Sunday, October 22, 6 p.m. Safe Harbor is a quartet of talented young men with a dynamic four-part harmony. The Lincoln-Wilkes Retired Educators Association will meet Thursday October 12, 11 a.m., at the Lincoln County Library, 181 Peachtree St., Lincolnton. Remember to bring your 2006-2007 GREA copy of awards and recognition guidelines. All retired educators are invited.

The Methodist Men of the First United Methodist Church will have chicken barbecue plates for sale on Saturday, November 4, 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m., eat-in or take-out, in the fellowship hall. Cost is $6 per plate. Tickets are available from church members.

The Downtown Development Authority will meet Monday, October 23, 8:30 a.m., at the Farmers State Bank conference room.

Flu shots will be available at the Wilkes County Health Department on Gordon Street every Thursday beginning October 12. Hours are 8 a.m.-12 p.m. and 1-4 p.m.

The Washington-Wilkes Elementary School Council will meet Thursday, October 12, 6 p.m., in the school conference room.

Passport regulations have changed. To travel by air, a person will need a passport before December 31, 2006; to travel by sea or land, by June 2009.

The Wilkes County Board of Registrars will meet October 19, Room 323, Wilkes County Courthouse, at 10 a.m.

The annual I'd Rather Be In Tignall Fall Festival will be held on the old school grounds in Tignall on Saturday, November 4, 9 a.m. until 4 p.m.

True Light Church will have a missionary program October 15, 3 p.m. The guest speaker will be Pastor Kim Leverett of the Pauline's Chapel FBH Church.

Transforming Life Ministries will sponsor the annual "Hallowed Be Thy Name" Youth Worship Service on Sunday, October 29, 4 p.m., at the Third Shiloh Center. This year's event will feature youth talent in song, music, dance, and literature. Anyone interested in participating should contact Amethyst Wynn at 706- 678-5492. Hot wings and fried fish with sides will be served along with various sweet treats. Food and candy donations are solicited.

Booker's Chapel Baptist Church Women of Virtue Ministry will host a conference entitled "Women of God! Are You Equipped for Action?" The conference will be held Friday, October 27, 7:30 p.m., and Saturday, October 28, 10 a.m., at the church.

Christ City of Prayer Church in Washington will be having a women's conference October 27- 29, 7:30 p.m. The speakers will be Evangelists Penny Quinn of First Baptist Church, Lincolnton; Kimberly Dillard of Timothy Baptist in Athens; and Betsy Porter of Washington.

The W-W Class of 1974 will meet Saturday, October 14, 5 p.m., at the home of Joe Harris Anderson, 716 Lexington Rd., Washington.

The Springfield Mass Choir will celebrate the 138th anniver- sary of the choir on Sunday, October 15, 3 p.m. Registration will begin at 2:30 p.m. The program will be held at the Springfield Baptist Church, Washington.
