Nancy C. Long Walk of Hope set for Friday afternoon at 6 The annual Nancy Callaway Long Breast Cancer Walk of Hope will be held Friday afternoon, October 13, at 6 p.m., on The Square in Downtown Washington. The annual walk is sponsored by Eta Omicron Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi. The walk honors the memory of Nancy Callaway Long who lost her life to cancer several years ago. "This event is a true memorial to Nancy's commitment to her community and her spirit and her fight against this terrible disease," says Dawn Pickett, chairman of the Walk. All the money raised during this event remains in Wilkes County. It goes toward purchasing muchneeded equipment at Wills Memorial Hospital or to the Cancer Relief Fund which is managed by Bunny Boyd Gunby for transportation needs of cancer patients or medication needs that are not covered through insurance or any other available funds. "This is the one fund that we have direct access to and control locally," Pickett said. "Please consider making a donation to this fund." Joan Geddings is treasurer of the group and will accept contributions at the Farmers and Merchants Bank. Contributions may also be mailed to Geddings at P.O. Box 808, Washington 30673. Checks should be made payable to Beta Sigma Phi.
Contributions may also be left at Bee Southern and the Chamber of Commerce on The Square.
