McTiers grateful for friends love and support TO THE EDITOR: My family has once again experienced the graciousness and kindness of small town living and wishes to express sincere thanks to our many friends in Washington, Tignall, Rayle, and surrounding area. On Sunday, September 9, at 4:45 p.m., my children, Joshua, Hannah, and Paden, and I were on our way to church at Tignall Baptist down the newly-paved Pecan Grove Road. When the right front tire edged off the payment, my son jerked the car back onto the road and things are a little blurry from there. I know we rolled our 2000 Ford Windstar down the opposite embankment landing upside-down at the bottom buried in trees and bushes. Hannah had seconds before the accident removed her seatbelt to lean up and show me something in a book she was reading. Because of this, she was thrown around the interior and hurt a little more severely than the rest of us. My children and I managed to free ourselves from our seatbelts and crawl out one of the broken windows and up the embankment. The minister from Black Rock Church and his wife stopped help and called 911. I had managed to drag my purse from the wreckage so I had my cell phone and called my husband, Troy, and my friend Ann. Soon, first responders, EMTs, firemen, friends and neighbors arrived to help. The four of us were placed on backboards and transported to Wills Memorial Hospital. I understand soon after our arrival more friends appeared in the hospital waiting room to join in the vigil for news of our condition and prayers for our well-being. My sons were released after x-rays and tests assured only minor cuts and injuries. Hannah and I were transported to MCG - I to the Trauma ER and Hannah to the Children's ER, later admitted to the Children's Medical Center. I was released late Monday morning with instructions for further tests on my abdomen to be handled by my local physician and a bruised kneecap. After having her x-rays reviewed by a pediatric radiologist, pediatric neuro-surgeon, and trauma surgeon team, Hannah was released late Monday night with a diagnosis of a bruised spine. Through all of this chaos, our friends and neighbors once again came to our rescue - not only by coming to the hospital to offer their love and support, but including us in their prayers, caring for our children, bringing food, sending cards, and even opening my shop. We appreciate all the love and support from everyone and are truly grateful the Lord led us to Washington to make our home. There is nothing more wonderful than living in a small town, especially this one. Thank you all and God bless! THE McTIERS, Troy, Carol, Joshua,
Hannah, and Paden
