Judge Jim Burton announces Dec. '08 retirement plans
TO THE EDITOR: and to voters of Wilkes County:

On December 31, 2008, I will complete my fifth term as Probate Judge for Wilkes County. The voters have been kind to me as I was allowed to serve in this office and be involved in the town and county I love. I write to you to announce my retirement at the conclusion of this term.

This office has the best staff in Georgia. Kay Williamson Finney had worked in Probate Court for 10 years when I came to the courthouse and is renowned in the state. Her advice and direction are sought by judges and clerks around the state in proper handling of procedures. She has been joined by Patricia Johnson Thornton and they make an exceptional team.

My purpose in making this known at this time is to give prospective candidates ample opportunity to investigate the possibility of seeking this office.
