Practicing 'a dream come true' for Georgian Dr. Kirk T. Dodson

Kirk T. Dodson, M.D.
Kirk T. Dodson, M.D., is the third in The News-Reporter's profiles of Wilkes County's practicing physicians.

Dr. Kirk T. Dodson has been practicing medicine in Wilkes County for the past nine years. He is in private practice as "Washington Internal Medicine."

The doctor says he came to Washington Wilkes because he was looking for a small town similar to the community in which he was reared. He was born and reared in Rex, Georgia, in Clayton County.

He expresses appreciation to the citizens of Washington for their support over the past years and says, "Practicing here has literally been a dream come true."

His practice continues to grow as he sees 20 to 25 new patients each month. He says that he plans to expand services to accommodate his patient needs, i.e., e-mail communication, house calls, online office visits, diagnostic studies, etc.

Dr. Dodson says that by practicing in Washington-Wilkes he is able to have much more personal relationships with his patients. "I've worked at most all the larger hospitals in Atlanta - Emory, St. Joseph's, Crawford-Long, Grady, and Atlanta Medical - and I'd rather be at Wills Memorial Hospital," he says.

Dr. Dodson and his wife Kat have two daughters, Raina and Morgan, and a son, Gage. His parents, James and Barbara Dodson, also live in Wilkes County.

He received his education and training at the Georgia Baptist Medical Center, Internal Medicine Resident, 1994-97; Emory Univer- sity School of Medicine, M.D., 1994; and the University of Georgia, B.S. in Biochemistry, 1990.

Some honors that he has received are being in the top 80th percentile of the Internal Medicine In-Training Examination in 1996; a member of the Gold Key Honor Society, 1989, University of Georgia; Outstanding College Students of America, 1989, University of Georgia; and a member of Alpha Epsilon Delta, Pre-Medical Honor Society, 1988, University of Georgia.

He is a member of the American Board of Internal Medicine and the American College of Physicians. He enjoys spending time with his family, fitness, computers, fishing, and music.
