It's Spooky to be Hungry!
Golden Harvest Food Bank collecting cans in food drive

You can be a part of the community wide effort to participate in "It's Spooky to be Hungry," a food drive to benefit the Golden Harvest Food Bank.

Regions Bank at 100 E. Robert Toombs Avenue in Washington is collecting canned goods for the drive. Donations are also accepted as part of the largest grassroots effort to help "needy neighbors" in the CSRA.

The Golden Harvest Food Bank is asking for donations of non-perishable, commercially-prepared food. There is also an additional request for disposable diapers and baby wipes. Monetary donations are also welcome.

With the purchasing power the organization enjoys, every dollar donated allows Golden Harvest to distribute nearly $7.00 of food to the needy - as if donors had spent $7 in the grocery store. Therefore, GHFB points out, "$10 donated = nearly $70 worth of food distributed; $50 donated = nearly $350 worth of food distributed; and $100 donated = nearly $700 worth of food distributed!"

Tax-deductible checks should be made out to "It's Spooky To Be Hungry."

"It's Spooky to be Hungry" is a grassroots, all-volunteer food drive dedicated to helping fight hunger and strengthening our communities since 1992. Last year with the help of over 230 participating food drive sites throughout the CSRA in neighborhoods, schools, churches, and businesses, the Golden Harvest Food Bank collected over 86,000 pounds of food and $46,000.

This year more people than ever need a little help from their neighbors, GHFB says. "Please give generously, and help stock the shelves of our regional food bank."
