Hinton's The Outsiders inspires 7th graders to dress in 60s style

Fourth Block students (front row, l-r) Hannah Ward, Hollie Huffman, Kaitlyn Bagwell, Kayla Sellman, Megan Canter, Megan Blackburn, Mallory Powell, Nicole Hicks, and Micheal Ardister; (back row) Alaina Weber, Emily Tanner, Trey McAvoy, Joe Rogers, Josh Eskew, Will Souther, Kotey McCall, Michael Pharr, and Will Lawson.
Katy Meech's seventh grade reading students dressed up in their favorite 1960s fashions to celebrate the decade that produced the popular young adult novel, The Outsiders, which was written by Susan E. Hinton.

The story addresses the age-old trials of the passage from youth to adulthood while battling peer pressure and society. While reading the novel, students also researched the differences of the sixties to that of today.

Each student created a collage of their topic of choice. Students who participated in the dress-up day are shown in the accompanying pictures in their sixties attire.
Third Block students in their sixties attire are (front row, l-r) Desiree Williams, Carlos Adams, Timothy Mickens, and Damian Callaway; (back row) Ariyanna Gartrell, Krystal Wylie, Shanevia Graves, Justin Williams, Damian Huff, and Tyricas Parks.
