David and Judy Tyler carried Mildred Tyler to Marietta Sunday, October 1, to visit with her sister and brother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. W.L. Ferguson. It is always good to have Mrs. Ida Norman home. She visited at Tignall Baptist Church Sunday. She and her sister, Edna Carlton, live together in Sylvania. The youth of Tignall Baptist Church who plan on going on the ski trip in late December need to sign up now. The $50 deposit is due by Sunday, October 15. On Sunday, October 22, the Tignall Baptist youth will be hosting a soup and sandwich luncheon. This is a fundraiser for the youth ski trip. There will be no charge, but donations will be greatly appreciated. The Tignall High School Reunion Committee met Saturday, October 7, at the home of Margaret Fortson. Others on the committee besides Margaret Samuels Fortson are Tody Bolton Derrick, Lois Jean Biffle Edwards of Commerce, Cecil and Flossie Rhodes, and Richard House of Carlton. This reunion will take place at the Tignall Lunchroom on the second Sunday in June and for the graduating classes of 1945, 1946, and 1947. Danburg Baptist Church had a good crowd at homecoming Sunday. Rev. Elton Lawson of Lincolnton brought the message that morning. The Whitener family had a reunion Saturday at the Tignall Lunchroom. There were about 50 family members attending. David and Jesse Shoemaker provided the barbecue meat and Dan Whitener provided the stew with everyone else bringing covered dishes to go along with the barbecue. We had a good report on Edna Lamar. She said that she is doing well with her surgery on her foot, but is still sore from the car accident. Gloria Ware spent the weekend in Lincolnton with her grandchildren, Jewel and Aubrey Flanagan, while their parents went on a trip. Carolyn and Richard Gammon had their granddaughters, Kara and Kaci Gammon, spending the weekend with them last weekend. Grandchildren get to do many things not allowed by parents. Carolyn took them to McDonald's Saturday for lunch. They had to wear some old jewelry that had belonged to a greatgrandmother. When they arrived at McDonald's, Kara had on a big floppy hat that Carolyn had trouble persuading her to leave in the car. So when they got ready to order, Carolyn didn't have her mind on meals and she said, "I want two happy kids!" The McDonald's employee said, "You already have two happy kids, maybe you mean meals!" Margaret Fortson reported that she is still in discomfort after the automobile accident she was involved in while driving Edna Lamar to the doctor in Athens. Margaret, hope you are getting some rest and feeling better. Let's all keep Mary Will Denard in our thoughts and prayers this week as she will undergo surgery Thursday. Joining Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Keener for lunch Thursday were Doug and Alona Sarver of Seneca, S.C.; Larry West of Gainesville; Jerry Wilson of Hartwell; and Mike Alligood of Rutledge. They guys were work associates of Mr. Keener. We have so much talent in Wilkes County. The play "Steel Magnolias" was certainly worth seeing. You found yourself laughing and crying almost in the same breath. Let's get started cleaning our yards, grounds, and city streets so our town will look good for the upcoming "I'd Rather Be in Tignall" Fall Festival. Remember, we were mentioned in the
Atlanta Journal- Constitution and we want to make a good impression.
