Jenelle Newsome honored at 85th birthday reception Oct. 1
For the occasion Miss Jenelle, as she is affectionately known, greeted her guests wearing a lovely purple and lilac suit, a gift from a granddaughter. Her grandchildren presented her a corsage of small white lilies with purple and yellow throats. Many friends and family members were greeted with celebration balloons outside to lead the way to the door. Inside Miss Jenelle greeted her guests as she was seated in the front living room. A table in the window alcove held beautiful yellow roses and chrysanthemums. Many gifts and cards were also on this table. Bouquets from family and friends were spread about the house for guests to enjoy. The focal point in the dining room was the table that held a delicious double-layered marble cake adorned with traditional icing and white roses. Centrally positioned, the cake was surrounded by mixed nuts, dainty mints made by Mrs. Scott Williamson of Lexington, and cheese straws made by James Thornton of Washington. At the end of the table mock champagne punch was served from the silver punch bowl that was surrounded by greenery, yellow daisies and chrysanthemums. Tables were dressed in light blue with white lace overlays. The coordinating colors of the beautiful blues and greens in the 85th birthday napkins and small silver stars added a special touch. Her three granddaughters and granddaughter-in-law all wore shades of aqua with black skirts or slacks and greeted and graciously helped serve the many guests who attended.
Family members attending were children, grandchildren and greatgranddaughter, Rev. and Mrs. Jim Newsome and Mr. and Mrs. David Peek of Vero Beach, Fla., Rick Newsome of Springfield, Va., Mr. and Mrs. James M.
