Hardy family reunion held on October 1; Gussie Hardy McAvoy, Tom Hardy honored

The home of Thomas and Mary Jane McAvoy was the scene of the Hardy reunion on Sunday, October 1.

The beautiful fall day provided the perfect setting for the barbecue enjoyed with all the trimmings. Brett McAvoy cooked the pig and was assisted by his son, Emory, daughter, Sarah Beth, and nephew, Caleb Saggus. Assisting with preparations on Sunday morning were Pat Lahr and Tucker and Ben Hardy.

The event also honored Mrs. Gussie Hardy McAvoy who celebrated her 92nd birthday on Friday, September 29. Also honored was Tom Hardy who along with Mrs. McAvoy, are the only remaining children of Lester and Sarah Norman Hardy.

A special remembrance was made in memory of deceased family members.

Attending from the Emmett Hardy family were David, Frances and Randy Ogletree, Joshua Bryant, Carroll and Gloria Hardy, Ray Hardy, Adam and Austin, Steve Jackson, Brock and Tabor, of Washington, Cecil and Frances Hardy of Atlanta, Joe Collins of Tignall, Pete and Laverne Hardy of Lincolnton and Chris and Susan Leighty and Allison of Covington.

Doug and Patricia Mathews of Carlton, Jimmy and Martha Stokely of Oak Ridge, Tenn., Jo Cofer McNair of Wrens, Jay and Stephanie McNair, Mason, Rachel and Maggie, of Gainesville, Gary and Julie Hardie, Cal, Brooks and Copeland, of Bremen, and Wade and Katie C. Henthorne of Harlem attended from the Rhetta Hardy Cofer family.

Tom Hardy was joined by his son and family, Joe and Debra Hardy, and Gaynor of Rayle.

Remembering the Wood Hardy family with their attendance were Anne Hardy, Mike and Donna Hardy and granddaughter, Emily Hardy, all of Washington, Dianne Bentley and guest Alton Danner Jr. of Lincolnton and Mindy Bentley of Thomson.

Attending from the Ben Irvin Hardy family were Lois M. Hardy, Joyce, Tucker and Ben Hardy and guest, Katie Shelton, Gary and Jessica Hardy, Jane Ellyn and Jackson, James and Kay Poplin, Pat and Robin Lahr, Jill Harris, Tyler, Ashlyn and Stuart, and guest Phil Morgan of Washington, Sandra H. Baynes of Greensboro and Darrell and Toni Hardy of Anderson, S.C.
