Lady Tigers take seed No. 4 entering Region 8-AA tourney

The W-W Lady Tigers softball team finished out its 2006 regular season with a home win and a road loss as the girls prepared to enter the Region 8-AA tournament which began on Tuesday, October 10.

Results of recent games are reported below.

On Tuesday, September 26, the Lady Tigers traveled to Morgan County to take on the defending state champions. W-W was not successful but played a good game, according to head coach Rob Jackson, losing 3-0. "The Tigers played good defense and Lindley Hall pitched a great game," Jackson said, "however, the Tiger offense was not successful at producing runs."

Leading hitters for the Tigers were Ashley Burt, 2-for-3; Lindsey Guin 1-for-3; and Jaleesa Hampton 1-for- 3.

On Thursday, September 28, the ladies played Putnam County and won by a score of 7-0. Hall picked up the win notching her third shutout of the season. Also, the Lady Tiger defense played exceptionally well with no errors.

Leading hitters for the lady tigers were Taylor Echols, 3-for-3; Nikki Freeman, 3-for-3; Lindsey Guin, 3- for-4; Yakira Banks, 1-for-4; and Ashley West, 1-for-3. The Tigers hosted Greene County

on October 3 for their last home game and beat the other Tigers 5-3 to secure the No. 4 seed in the region tournament.

Hall again pitched a complete game giving up only three hits while striking out seven. Leading hitters for the Tigers were Ashley West, 2- for-3; Lindsey Guin, 2-for-3; Jaleesa Hampton, 1-for-2; Angel Acree, 1- for-2; and Yakira Banks, 1-for-3.

At North Oconee on Thursday, October 5, the Lady Tigers played well but came up short against the No. 4-ranked Titans. Hall gave up seven hits in her complete game but only one earned run scored. The other four runs were scored on five throwing errors by the W-W ladies.

Leading hitters against N. Oconee were Yakira Banks, 2-for-3; Taylor Echols, 1-for-3; and Emily Martin, 1-for-3.

The Region 8-AA tournament began Tuesday, October 10, at Morgan County. The region playoff format is an eight-team double-elimination tournament. The top four teams from region 8-AA South and 8-AA North will participate and the top four will advance to the state sectionals beginning October 20 in Dalton, Georgia.

Results of the first round of the tournament were not available for this edition.
