Casting call announced for 'Pushin' Up Daisies' Filmmaker Patrick Franklin will be hosting a casting call for "Pushing up Daisies" on Sunday, October 29, at the conference room of the Mary Willis Library in Washington from 2 p.m. until 5 p.m. "Pushin' Up Daisies" will go into production in early 2007, producer/ director Franklin said. "The film is seeking Washington-Wilkes County citizens to appear in the movie in speaking roles and non-speaking roles. All ages are welcome. The film will also need many extras for crowd scenes and encourages families to come join in the filming." The film is a comedy, Franklin said, "about an amateur documentary filmmaker attempting to capture reality in spite of a sudden unrealistic occurrence - zombies taking over the world." "Pushin' Up Daisies" is not a horror movie, he said, "It's a farce and a satire fit for the age of reality TV." In August, the Washington City Council approved a request from filmmaker Patrick Franklin to film part of the movie in an unused part of Resthaven Cemetery. Franklin said that he was very aware that the cemetery was a very sensitive place. The production would use fake gravestones in an unused part of the cemetery, with the real cemetery as background. The script for "Pushin' Up Daisies" was nominated as one of five In addition, co-producers Patrick finalists for the Southeastern Media Award at this year's Atlanta Film Festival, an honor previously bestowed upon David Gordon Green's critically acclaimed feature film "George Washington" as well as Ray McKinnon's Academy Awardwinning short film "The Accountant." Franklin and Andy Rusk just recently won the 8th Annual Perfect Pitch Contest with their script entitled "The Plaster Man." In December, they will be traveling to Los Angeles as the contest winners to pitch their script to Hollywood executives and attend an annual celebration of regional filmmaking called "Georgia Night in L.A."
