Mayflower closed, thanks offered

TO THE EDITOR:

Yes. It is true. The Mayflower Coffee Co. closed its doors on October 20.

Milton and I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of our loyal customers, our friends and family who came in regularly and enjoyed our lovely shop.

We miss seeing all of you on a daily basis and wish you all well. We again want to thank all of you who helped us renovate the space and make it into the showplace that it was. It was truly satisfying to take a rundown building and make it into a lovely business that visitors both local and from around the country could enjoy.

The decision to close was not made lightly and was precipitated by the fact that we were not offered a new lease by the present owners of the building. Our lease ran out on August 31 and we were told they would not renew but would allow us to stay "for a while."

It is difficult, if not impossible, to do business when you may be told at anytime that you must leave the building. We began searching for a place to move our business but did not find a suitable location that would support a restaurant business.

When Milton was injured September 9 on his job and had knee surgery on September 19, we realized that his rehabilitation was going to take many months. Our priorities suddenly had changed and we found ourselves facing the fact that we needed to make a move according to our own needs and not wait for the inevitable to happen.

We know many of you are disappointed that you will no longer be able to get your favorite coffee drink or smoothie right here in Washington. Believe us when we say that no one is more disappointed than we are. We enjoyed every minute of our time on The Square and again want to thank our loyal supporters for everything they did to make our business a success. Thank you!

MILTON AND TERRY ROBERTS
