Branch recounts service in Iraq
Georgia State Patrol Senior Trooper Dale Branch (left) discussed "A Day in the Life of a U.S. Soldier in Iraq" at the regular meeting of the Washington Kiwanis Club on Tuesday, October 24. Senior Trooper Branch, also a 1SGT in the Georgia National Guard with 24 years of service - and still serving - was called to active duty in December 2004, sent to Ft. Stewart, then deployed to Lutisayah, Iraq, in May 2005. He returned home in June 2006. His unit's base camp was located at Lutisayah, a former telephone relay station, about 12 miles South of Baghdad. He described in detail, showing many color photographs, the unit's activities during his deployment. He stressed to members the need for the guard and reserve as a integral part of the active military forces of the United States. Jim Griggs was program host for the day.
