SOUTHERN FRIED FOOTBALL
with CLAUDE CLEATS

Last Saturday night the Clemson Tigers shook-up Southern football with a resounding 31-7 blasting of a very good Georgia Tech team. The win propelled Clemson to the No. 1 ranking in this week's Dixie Dozen. Elsewhere, Tennessee struggled at home against a mediocre Alabama team. Georgia almost lost to a very weak Mississippi State squad while South Carolina surprised many by walloping upstart Vanderbilt on the road. Ain't nothing like college football in Dixie!

Let's see what's on top this week!

Clemson by 14 over Virginia Tech - Yea, I know the line on this one is only 41/2, but if last week's pasting of Georgia Tech is any indication, the Tigers should leave Blacksburg tonight with a solid win over the Hokies.

Wake Forest by 12 over North Carolina - UNC's Bunting has already been given his walking papers effective at the end of the season. That should give the Heels an emotional edge, but it won't be enough. Wake is too strong.

N.C. State over Virginia by 3 - The Wahoos are getting better, but State should be able to squeeze by.

Upset: Maryland over FSU by 2 - The Terps are licking their chops as they catch the reeling Seminoles at home.

Tulane by 5 over Army - The Green Wave finds another team it can beat.

Auburn by 17 over Ole Miss - The Rebels are pretty bad and Auburn is really good!

Tennessee by 13 over South Carolina - Fulmer gets his revenge over Spurrier.

Florida by 17 over Georgia - Remember when this was a big game?

Georgia Tech by 7 over Miami - Remember when Miami was good?

Kentucky over Miss. State by 6 - The moral victory over Georgia may be enough of an emotional lift to bring about an upset, but I don't think so.
