Youth basketball registration now underway at PRD

Registration for the Washington- Wilkes Parks and Recreation Department (W-WPRD) youth basketball program is being held Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Registration is being held at the W-WPRD gymnasium at 22 Lexington Avenue.

The deadline for registration is Wednesday, November 22. Participants will not be accepted after uniforms have been ordered. Anyone wishing to participate should register early.

Fees are $48 for ages 11-15; and $32.00 for ages 6-10.

Birth certificates are required for 11-15 year-olds who register.

No. 72, Chris Webb, plays defensive tackle and is probably one of the best the Tigers have seen this year.

No. 56, Derrick Jackson, at defensive end, and No. 51, Travious Evans, at linebacker, "are pretty darn good," Morgan said.

Greene's defense bases out of a 4-4 with a few occasional formation shifts.

They lost a couple of receivers to graduation last year and struggled somewhat early this year, "but now they're catching the football pretty well," Morgan reported. The other Tigers also lost several offensive linemen last year and are consequently a little bit smaller across the front than they have been in recent years.

One advantage the W-W Tigers have over the Greene Tigers is that

going ahead a working on Greene County so we've had a little additional time to recognize their sets and formations," Morgan said. But probably more importantly, the players have had time to get over some nagging bumps and bruises that may have kept them from being 100 percent.

"It has also allowed us time to get healthy again. I think it was a good time for our open week," Morgan explained.

And even though compared to last year, the injuries have been relatively light, there still have been some key players slowed by annoyances.

Kelmetrius Wylie has had a little bit of a sprained ankle but seems fine now.
