Construction contractors to hear information on new licensing regs

The Chamber of Commerce is helping local construction contractors meet the new state requirements for professional licensing.

The Washington-Wilkes Chamber of Commerce is holding a meeting on Thursday, November 16, at the Mary Willis Library from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. to share information with contractors concerning the new professional licensure requirements for construction contractors, specifically Residential-Basic Contractors, Residential-Light Commercial Contractors and General Contractors.

"We will try and answer as many questions as possible, and we will generate a list of questions to pass on to the state for answers," Cham-

ber Executive Director Donna Hardy said. "We have a contact in the Secretary of State's office, Tonya Battle, who is assisting us with this program, and she will find answers to our questions."

Applications for "grandfathering" appropriate candidates will be available and the Chamber will be giving assistance to complete those applications for the next three to four weeks, Hardy said, so contractors who qualify will meet the upcoming deadlines.

This service is free to the public. "Contractors, please plan now to attend this very important meeting on Thursday, November 16 at 6 p.m. at the Mary Willis Library."
