Tignall festival filled with old friends, new faces, 'It was like a big Tignall reunion' at Old School

Folks attending Saturday's "I'd Rather Be in Tignall" festival got to see old-time skills demonstrated, such as Susannah Carter's spinning.
Residents of Tignall both present and past filled the old schoolyard Saturday for the "I'd Rather Be in Tignall" Festival, and saw a lot of old friends and a few new faces.

"It was like a big Tignall reunion," said Carolyn Gammon. "Tignall folks came back to town from all over, and everybody in Tignall was there. There were even some people I didn't know there."

One of the big draws of the festival was the display of old-time photos of Tignall and Tignall people set up in the gym. "That was a big hit," she said. "Everybody had to come see the old photos we had."

The children's fashion show was very popular, she said, as were the pony rides. "Kristy and Chuck Jordan gave pony rides all day long," Gammon said.

Freddie Brown kept the music flowing all day, and festival goers enjoyed a cake walk, bingo, hayrides, plus a petting zoo, pony rides, live music, cloggers, a moonwalk and slide, striker putting green, candy corn contest, face painting, a spinning demonstration, a kids fashion show, and lots of food.

Kids lined up all day to ride horses provided by Kristy and Chuck Jordan.
This event, put on by the North Wilkes Steering Committee, had a large number of vendors presenting jewelry, art, wood working, quilts, pottery, and lots of other handmade items.

There were door prizes, including some cash prizes, raffles for a quilt made by the Homemakers Club and a hooked rug made by Margaret Fortson.

"And we sold lots of 'I'd Rather Be in Tignall' t-shirts," she said. With all the folks who came back to town for this, we had an absolutely great time."
