Art festival a success thanks to Lou, others

TO THE EDITOR:

On behalf of the Washington- Wilkes Arts Foundation, I want to thank Louis Ricciuti, the chair of this fall's Festival of Art, for his outstanding work to make this past weekend the success it was. Lou gave his time and effort unstintingly, was organized and coaxed the very best effort from each volunteer, keeping us informed and on schedule, and seemed to do it effortlessly.

Lou Ricciuti toiled daily for many months on behalf of the Festival, and he deserves the gratitude of everyone involved, as well as appreciation from the town of Washington for his exemplary leadership in this event. The Festival showcased Washington as a place that is forward looking and dedicated to making the arts accessible for both Washington's citizenry and for visitors to our wonderful town.

Giving cash prizes to attract new and accomplished artists was Lou's idea and proved to have been worthwhile: so many people commented on the quality of art exhibited in this Festival. Every single exhibitor was exemplary.

Everyone worked hard: Susan Pope, Robert Geiger, Polly Fievet, Anita Darden, Mary Craven, Bill Bennett and Ashley Turner. Subway and Fievet Pharmacy contributed luncheons for participating artists on both Saturday and Sunday. The Todds and the Fitzpatrick made much appreciated contributions. So many people worked to make the Festival a success - I cannot mention everyone here, though we are no less grateful for each contribution - but Lou directed it all. When you see Lou, make a point of thanking him in person for his astonishing accomplishments with this year's Arts Festival!

The Washington-Wilkes Arts Foundation exists to support all of the arts in Wilkes and surrounding counties. The Foundation gives scholarships, purchases musical instruments, and makes the work of many fine artists and musicians visible, especially for young people, in Wilkes County. I encourage everyone to become a member of the Washington-Wilkes Arts Foundation and help in the work it does to keep the arts alive and growing in our community.
