W-WMS Corner Students will finish ITBS on Friday; Cross Country runners finish season
By W-WMS SEVENTH AND EIGHTH GRADERS

Washington-Wilkes Middle School news for the week includes ITBS testing, progress reports, sports, club news, and yearbook sales. The eighth grade students started the Iowa Test of Basic Skills (ITBS) on Monday, November 6, and will complete the testing on Friday, November 10. All middle school students will take home progress reports today.

The basketball season has started and both the boys and girls teams were victorious in their season opener against Lincoln County. The girls won their game by a score of 21-18, and the boys were triumphant with a win over the Lincoln County boys by a score of 48-31. Both teams are in action November 20 for a home game against Taliaferro County. The girls' game starts at 4 p.m. with the boys' game to follow.

Wrestling team tryouts are going on now. They will have their first wrestling meet at North Hall High School. This Trojan Middle School War meet will begin at 9 a.m. on November 18.

In the last meet of the season in which W-WMS cross-country runners competed, Dixie Lee Trim finished in a virtual tie for first place with a time of 23:24 over the 3.1-mile course. Angela Broome ran a time of 29:44 and finished eighth. There were 16 runners in the girls' race. All but five of those runners were high school girls.

In the boys' race that featured 35 runners, most of whom were high school runners, Tyler Stasyshyn finished seventh overall with a time of 19:52. Josh McLeroy finished 16th at 21:29, John Pope was 17th at 21:47, and Rob Lovvorn ran a time of 26:53.

4-H and Beta Club saw action on Tuesday, November 7. 4-H meetings were held throughout the day and Beta Club met after school. Beta Club members are busy getting prepared for Beta Club Convention. The convention is November 16-17 in Macon, Georgia.
