RAYLE NEWS
By Bonnie Boatwright Call 274-3264

I hope everyone has been enjoying this brisk weather and white frosty mornings as much as J.W. and I have. We keep the old wood heater fired up. 'Tis the time of the year for parched peanuts, baked apples, turnip greens, sweet potato pie and shut yo' mouth. Rev. John Mark Carpenter brought an inspiring message titled "Are We There Yet?" Sunday morning at Sardis Baptist Church. Betty Carpenter, pianist, and Pam Hall, music leader, led in congregational singing. A beautiful and sweet dedication program for "Operation Christmas Child" was held under the direction of Monica Gunter right before the sermon. A short and sweet film showing the children receiving the boxes was shown, then Monica gave Kaitlyn Porter, Jeremiah Fry and Maddie Gunter, a prettily wrapped shoe box and gave them a name as she read a little story about the person they were representing. Then other children joined them to bring all the shoe boxes to the front as Courtney Gunter arranged them on the communion table. It was a beautiful and touching experience. Dana Echols came down from Ballground to spend the weekend with Barry Echols and Fred Corbett. Other visitors during the week have been Danny and Beverly Corbett, J.W. Boatwright, Nina Boatwright, Ruth Flynt, Shawn Turner, Thelma Favor, and Tommy and Betty Echols. Continuing prayers are for Fred Corbett, Seba Williamson, Ken Spooner, Ellie Frey, Roberta Roper, Staphanie Chapman, Kathryn Padgett, Gary Rogers, Mike Webb, Pete Poss, Louise Pless, Bill Remson, Ed Crooke, Thomas Wheatley, Thomas Bunch, Jerry Wilson, Charles Bradford, Sara Lynn Hyatt, Dorothy Callaway, and Bobby Parton. Bonnie Boatwright joined J.W. and Kathleen Canup and Margaret Peterman of Lexington Tuesday afternoon and went to Elberton where they enjoyed playing bingo at Wendy's. Doris Walker went over to Tignall Saturday afternoon for a visit with Joyce Chamberlain. Joyce's sister was also there and they enjoyed reminiscing over old times. A family birthday party with ice cream and cake in honor of Jessica Berry was enjoyed Sunday afternoon at the home of Rev. and Mrs. Donnie Berry. Joining Jessica, her parents, and her sister Abbie, for this occasion were Betty Berry, Sybil Vaughn, Tom and Sandra Parker, Lee and Shelley Parker and Bradley. Betty Berry and Sybil Vaughn met Roselle Burt and one of her friends, Loraine, of Augusta in Thomson one day during the week for a get-together and lunch at Ivery's. Sudie Kennedy and Ann Williamson enjoyed going to Thomson one day during the week and had lunch at Ryan's. David and Margie Randall joined the Heritage Club one day during the week for a wonderful trip to Helen and the mountains and enjoyed eating at the Stovall House. They also enjoyed the pretty leaves. Penny Vaughn of Martinez spent Thursday with Mrs. Annie Blanche Vaughn. Tucker and Brenda Vaughn came for the weekend with their mother. Angela Armour, Samantha, Cody, and Hunter, Will Callaway, Scott and Sissy Smith, and J.T., and Richard and Lou Heard, Mattie and Hank enjoyed the day Sunday with Buck and Linda Echols. Ralph and Elizabeth Smith's visitors during the week have been Ann Wideman, Jean Harper, Charlie and Linda Arnold, and Bobby Arnold. Bryson Porter spent Friday night and Saturday with his aunt, Kim Berry. Aaliya Berry joined Brooke Berry and Kaitlyn and went to the football game to see the Washington Wilkes Tigers beat the Greene County Tigers 16-6. Visiting Mrs. Ruby Arnold during the week have been Faye Johnson, Randy and Fallen Roberson and Gracie, Josh Roberson and Trilby McCall, Larry and Brianna Lamar, Jamie Bolton, Ruby Booth, Kristy Booth, Dot Callaway, Kim Berry and Aaliya, and Bryson Porter. Bonnie Boatwright took in the festivities in Tignall Saturday. I played bingo for a while until I got too cold and had to give it up. I left early, but not before I won at the cake walk a most delicious fresh apple and nut cake which J.W. and I have been enjoying very much. Kay Berry and Faye Thornton of Washington enjoyed going to the "I'd Rather Be in Tignall" Fall Festival Saturday.

Bonnie Boatwright enjoyed visiting with Ruth Flynt Sunday. A cookout was given for Manuel Wheatley honoring him on his birthday Sunday at the home of Tracy and Denise Armour, Justin, Ethan, and Jackson. Joining them were Brett and Ashleigh Bussey of Lincolnton, and Audra Chapman. Lindley Hall is recuperating nicely from her knee surgery with the help of crutches and her visitors have been Emily Martin and Ashton Hardin. Lindley has a lot of help from her friends at school with carrying her books. Avery Hall spent Friday night with Clyde and Sandy Whittington.

Bonnie Boatwright enjoyed getting together with some of her classmates of the Class of 1956 of Oglethorpe County High School Monday morning at the Sandy Cross Café. Gathering for this event along with Bonnie were Carole Deane Morgan, Helen Jones Smith, Ann Capes Graham, Eddie and Jo Ann Paul York, Charlie and Erna Hayes, Morris Smith, and J.B. Harrison. Everyone enjoyed breakfast and catching up on current events. Mrs. J.B. Saxon of Abbeville, S.C., and Mr. and Mrs. Bennie Saxon of Calhoun Falls, S.C., spent Thursday with Mrs. Carl Sisson.
