Wheelis WOM group gathers at Madden home on November 6

Nancy Madden was hostess for the meeting of the Frances Wheelis Women on Mission of First Baptist Church at her home on Monday evening, November 6.

Mrs. Madden opened with a devotional from Isaiah entitled "How I Live Matters," citing six pillars of character. She also led in prayer.

Susan Pope was program chairman for the meeting and welcomed her husband, Edward Pope Jr., who spoke about the work of the Georgia Baptist Association focusing on the many building and rebuilding efforts of volunteers within the Association. He told of several trips planned by the Association that he had had a part including trips as far away as Mississippi and West Virginia and as close as Penfield and Soperton. He spoke of the tremendous needs of others, the blessings he had received and the relationships built with others he had worked with and met. He challenged members to become involved in the many projects of the Association, that everyone can do something.

Following his program, Mrs. Madden led the WMU Watchword. After routine business, Gail Stewart, member and WMU Director, announced plans for the Lottie Moon Missions Banquet to be held this year at First Baptist on November 16. The event will begin at 6:30 p.m. with a covered dish dinner. Clarence and Lynn Lance, retired missionaries to Burkino Faso, will be the guest speakers. She also announced the International Mission Study will be November 29 and Week of Prayer for International Missions is December 3-10.

Plans were made for the annual Christmas caroling and soup and sandwich supper on December 12.

Mission action plans were discussed.

Teresa Bishop led the missionary prayer calendar focusing on scripture from Acts 17 and work in North Africa. Following the reading of names of missionaries with birthdays on November 7 and those with special needs in the community, Mrs. Stewart closed in prayer.

Mrs. Madden served delicious refreshments during a time of fellowship.

Present with Mrs. Madden were Melanie Wells, Rosemary Hopkins, Gail Hunter, Sue Lance, Teresa Bishop, Kay Nelms, Elizabeth Pope, Louise McClearen, Julia Palmer, Judy Bland, Gail Stewart and Susan and Edward Pope Jr.
