News-Reporter now printed on 100% recycled newsprint This News-Reporter might have been a News-Reporter before. Beginning this week, this newspaper is printed on 100% recycled newsprint produced by SP Newsprint Sales in Dublin, Georgia, the same company to which the Washington Kiwanis Club takes its old newspapers for recycling. So, when all those discarded back issues of The News-Reporter that are deposited in the Kiwanis bin each week are shredded, bleached, pulped, and made into new newsprint, they just might be finding their way back here to go through The News-Reporter press again. That's fun to think about but the real reasons for the switch are both conservational and economical. The newsprint the paper had been using was partially recycled but this takes that conservation effort to the next level. Additionally, the new paper is just a little bit whiter and smoother and it feels different.
Economically, the paper is slightly less expensive and shipping from Dublin is cheaper that shipping from Virginia where the former supplier is located. The dollar saving should help to soften a planned increase in subscription rates necessitated by an announced postal rate hike.
