Tignall News Another house is coming down in Tignall. The Charles Albea home is being torn down. I remember when I was a child, R.L. and Mary Byrd and children, Nancy and Bobby, lived there. Rev. Albert Huyck has been under the weather and was in the Elbert County Hospital from Monday until Thursday of last week. Let's hope he is feeling better. Let's keep Elizabeth Archer of Nevada, sister of Ernest Lamar and daughter of Mrs. Edna Lamar, in our prayers. She has been diagnosed with lung cancer and is having surgery this Wednesday. Visiting with Peggy and Donald Ware and Mary Ann Williams from Tuesday through Sunday of last week was Peggy and Mary Ann's sister, Mrs. Betty Nix of Clarkesville. The youth of Tignall Baptist Church along with First Baptist of Washington and First United Methodist of Washington will be preparing Thanksgiving meals for the shut-ins this week. We should be very proud of our youth as they are always taking on these service projects for the community. A delicious Thanksgiving dinner was enjoyed at Beulah Baptist Church Sunday night. After Thanksgiving everyone usually has the refrigerator stuffed with leftovers, so here's a recipe to get rid of those leftovers: Favorite Casserole Recipe
Combine everything from the left side of the refrigerator. Put potato chips on top and bake. Now isn't that easy!! After doing all this eating that we do over the holidays, most of us will have to start my kind of lunches - almonds and dried apricots! Then comes Christmas and we start all over again. According to Webster's American Dictionary, College Edition, Thanksgiving is described as follows: "Thanksgiving - n The act of giving thanks; an expression of thanks, esp. to God; a public celebration in acknowledgement of divine favor." With this being Thanksgiving week, we all turn our thoughts to those things for which we are most thankful - family, friends, and good health. But, do you remember when Thanksgiving was such a special holiday with church and school plays featuring Pilgrims and Indians and pumpkin pie was the main dessert? Somewhere along the way, Thanksgiving has been lost between Halloween and Christmas. At church, Psalm 110 was always read, ". . . Enter into his gates with thanksgiving. . . ." Oh, but most of all we are thankful for our freedom and to be living in America! God bless America! Visiting Mr. and Mrs. Wilbur Maney for the weekend were Clay and Shauna Kidder and their little daughter Dakota of the Charleston, S.C., area. Clay is the grandson of the Maneys and is recovering from recent jaw surgery. Don't you just know Ricky and Kathy Lindsey are so proud of Hillary? We surely are! From performing at the Ryman to writing for Matina McBride, Carrie Underwood, and Jon Bon Jovi, you just know she is destined for bigger and better things. Congratulations, Ricky and Kathy. Nita Edwards Riley is home now and recovering from her recent injury and surgery. Glad you are home and getting stronger, Nita. Take care. Congratulations to our Washington Wilkes Tigers!
