Dyson and Batrous represent Briarwood at Heisman banquet
Clint Bryant, athletic director for Augusta State University was the speaker at the banquet. Wendy's High School Heisman, which is awarded in conjunction with the collegiate Heisman, recognizes the achievements of the nation's top high school seniors both in and out of the classroom. Ali, the daughter of George and April Dyson of Washington, and Joseph, the son of Joe and Vicki Batrous of Thomson and the grandson of Vernon and Jackie Adams of Washington, were nominated based on their academic aptitude, their athletic talent, and their commitment to their school and communities. Ali is an Honor Roll student at Briarwood, a member of the National Honor Society and served as a Junior Usher for the Class of 2006. She is editor of the Briarwood annual. Ali is one of this year's nominees for the Wendy's High School Heisman award. She has lettered in varsity softball, basketball, cheerleading, track, twirling and tennis. She was recently named a 1AA All Region softball player and was a member of two region softball runners up teams. Ali was a member of the 2004 Lady Bucs track team, which placed first in Region 1AA. Ali is a member of both the varsity football and basketball cheerleading squads and the competition cheerleading squad, including the 2005 state runner up competition squad. She has been named a UCA All Star cheerleader and a UCA jump-off finalist. She also was nominated as a NCA All American cheerleader. Ali has participated in five musicals as a member of the Briarwood Chorus. She was a member of the one-act play cast of Spoon River Anthology, which placed first in Region 1AA competition last year. Joseph is an Honor Roll student at Briarwood, a member of the National Honor Society and served as a Junior Usher for the Class of 2006. Joseph played varsity football for the Buccaneers throughout high school. He was selected as a member of the GISA 1AA All Region team last year by the coaches and received the Coaches Award for the Bucs. He was a member of the 2003 1AA Region championship team. Also a basketball player, Joseph was named the 2006 All Area Independent Player of the Year by The Augusta Chronicle. He was selected to the 2006 GISA AA All State Team and was selected as a GISA 1AA All Region team member in 2004, 2005 and 2006. He received the Most Valuable Offensive Player award for the Bucs in both 2005 and 2006.
Joseph played varsity baseball for the Bucs for his first three years of high school and plans to play this spring. He was named the Diamond Bucs' Most Valuable Player in 2006 and was named to the GISA 1AA All Region team. He also was selected as an All Region baseball player in 2005. He was a member of the 2004 Diamond Bucs team that advanced to the GISA Final Four and was a member of the 2004 and 2005 1AA region championship teams.
