Angel Tree needs last-minute help or some children may be forgotten
The program, run by Washington First United Methodist Church, is an outreach to needy children all over the county, with support and participation from many individuals, civic groups, and other churches, said Laura Toburen. "The children Angel Tree reaches are identified through the schools and other sources as those who, for various reasons, might not be remembered at Christmas," she said. "But with all these angels still on the tree, I'm afraid some children are going to be left out, unless we get help." To help a needy Wilkes County child have a better Christmas, she said, just stop by the First Methodist Church, select their angel or angel family, and register in the signup book. "You can purchase their presents and return them to the church by Monday, December 4. The gifts and food boxes will be delivered by volunteers on Saturday, December 9.
"If you'd like to help one of these children, but just don't have time to shop, you can make a donation," Toburen said. The high school Interact Club will complete the shopping. Donations can be made at the church, or to FUMC Angel Tree, Box 518, Washington 30673.
