Christmas Tour of Homes Dec. 8-9 offers activities in additon to tours The Christmas Tour of Homes next weekend promises something for everyone, from beautifully decorated homes and fine holiday dining, to award-winning shrimp and grits and Christmas music. Sponsored by the Washington- Wilkes Historical Foundation, the tour will be held in Washington- Wilkes on Friday and Saturday, December 8 and 9. The tour will include five homes and the First United Methodist Church and parsonage on the Candlelight Tour from 5:00 until 9:00 p.m., and six on the Town and Country Tour on Saturday from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. While visiting the Methodist Church visitors will be treated to beautiful piano and organ Christmas music. The homes on the Candlelight Tour will be the homes of William and Genna Pope, 217 W. Robert Toombs Ave., Washington; the First United Methodist Church Parsonage, home of Richard and Gail Seibert, 104 W. Liberty St., Washington; the home of Robert Geiger and Edward Franklin (owned by Mike Scarborough), 107 Grove St., Washington; the home of Alma Ruth Toler at the corner of East Robert Toombs Avenue and Grove Street, Washington; and the home of Martha Coulter, 102 Water Street, Washington. Homes on the Town and Country (Day) Tour on Saturday will be the town homes of Lawrence Hyde, 414 Spring St., Washington; The Rider House owned by Smythe and Jane Newsome, 109 Court Street, Washington; and the John Peddar home, 411 S. Alexander Ave., Washington. Country Homes will be the homes of Hugh and Nobie Keener, 197 N. Hulin Ave., Tignall; Vivian and Roger Walker, 2221 Sandtown Rd., Tignall; and home of Dolores McAvoy, 494 Sandy Cross Rd., Tyrone community. The annual Christmas Dinner served in beautiful Washington- Wilkes Homes will be served on Saturday night and will be preceded by a Twilight Champagne Reception at The Livery on West Court Street. The dinner will be served in 11 Washington-Wilkes homes, including Mark and Emilie Waters, 412 E. Robert Toombs Ave.; Tom and Barbara Chase, 15 Lexington Ave.; Guillaume and Sokum Slama, 219 E. Robert Toombs Ave.; Phillip Rothman, 301 S. Alexander Ave.; Bill and Laura Sleighter, 307 N. Alexander Ave.; Buzzy and Jo Randall, 415 E. Robert Toombs Ave.; Jean Davis Blair, 115 W. Robert Toombs Ave.; Phillip and Vicki Wang, 109 W. Liberty St.; Gail Boyd, 519 N. Alexander Ave.; Rich and Gail Seibert, 104 W. Liberty St.; and the Fitzpatrick Hotel, Christy and Michael Todd, 16 W. Court Square. There are many other attractions available during the weekend. The Livery will host a program by a group of violins and a cello to play while visitors view original artwork and talk with artists. Cook-off winner Joe Barnett will have his famous Shrimp and Grits available at The Livery from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. Another attraction will be the Holice McAvoy Museum which features the most significant World War II planes, all hand-carved by Mr. McAvoy. Nearby at the Kettle Creek Battlefield, a storyteller will be on the site to tell about the battle at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. The Washington Historical Museum and the Washington Historical Foundation will present the Daniel Bibb Russian Icon Collection at the museum from November 16 through January 31.
