Fifth-grade students attend state technology conference

Washington-Wilkes Elementary School Students participating in the GaETC Student Showcase were (l-r) Chander Pharr, Christian Keiser, Cecilia Eligio, and LaMonica Anderson, with their teachers (back) Peggy Jones and Janet Pharr.
LaMonica Anderson, Cecilia Eligio, Christian Keiser, and Chandler Pharr were chosen to represent the entire fifth grade class from Washington-Wilkes Elementary School at Fort Discovery in Atlanta. The Georgia Educational Technology Training Center at the National Science Center at Fort Discovery selected Peggy Jones, W-WES Teacher of the Year, and her fifth grade classes at W-WES to attend the Georgia Educational Technology Conference (GaETC) held in Atlanta on November 16.

"The students you brought to the GaETC to represent your school, county, and our ETTC were awesome. We heard several comments about how well they did," Jimmy Bostock, State Instructional Technology Specialist at ETTC Fort Discovery said of the W-WES group.

Regional Educational Technology Training Centers (ETTCs) throughout the state of Georgia chose twelve teams of students from across the state to represent the exciting and innovative ways in which technology is being integrated in classrooms. All fifth grade students at Washington-Wilkes Elementary School are actively involved in using computers and technology in Peggy Jones' science lab.

Jones has named her technology students the S.W.A.T. team. S.W.A.T. stands for Students Working and Achieving with Technology.

During the student showcase session in Atlanta, the students were given the opportunity to impress and inspire others across the state of Georgia by demonstrating all the many innovative ways they use technology every day.
