Clarence Pope Funeral services for Clarence Pope, 75, of Washington were held Friday, November 24, 2006, at McLendon Memorial Chapel, Washington, with Rev. Robert Crawford officiating. Interment was in City West Cemetery. Mr. Pope was a native of Wilkes County and the son of the late Katie Mae Binns. He served in the United States Air Force, achieving the rank of sergeant. Following this service he lived in New York City where he established a career in the financial services industry. He married Maire Laura Smith. He operated a restaurant in New York City with his mother and upon his return to Washington Wilkes opened Katie's Texaco. He was an active member of AmVets and a member of the Mt. Carmel Baptist Church. Survivors include a son, Darrell Clarence Pope of Ocala, Fla.; two grandchildren, Morgan and Darius Pope; and a sister, Mary Emma Edge of Washington.
McLendon Memorial Funeral Home of Washington was in charge of arrangements.
