This weekend's Tour of Homes will include many other events

The 2007 Christmas Tour of Homes in Washington-Wilkes has been expanded to include many activities in addition to the tour itself.

Sponsored by the Washington- Wilkes Historical Foundation, the tour will be held Friday and Saturday, December 8 and 9. Tour headquarters will be at the Fitzpatrick Hotel on The Square.

The Candlelight Tour Friday evening will feature five homes and the First United Methodist Church. Time for the tour is from 5:00 until 9:00 p.m. Christmas at Callaway Plantation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m.

Homes on the Candlelight Tour are Pembroke, William and Genna Pope; the Coulter Cottage, Martha Coulter; the Methodist Parsonage, Rich and Gail Seibert; Grove Street Cottage, Robert Geiger and Ed Franklin; and the Toler Cottage, Alma Ruth Toler.

The Town and Country Day Tour will begin promptly at 10 a.m. Saturday morning and continue until 5:00 p.m.

Houses in town will include HydeAway, Lawrence Hyde; The Rider House, Smythe and Jane Newsome; and Peddar Home, John and Lisa Peddar.

Country homes are Pine Heart (Tignall), Hugh and Nobie Keener; Goose Pond Cottage (Tignall), William and Genna Pope; McAvoy Homestead (Tyrone) Dolores McAvoy; and Holly Ridge Plantation and the Old Danburg Post Office Guest House (Sandtown), Roger and Vivian Walker.

The Twilight Champagne Reception gets underway at 6:00 p.m., at The Court Street Livery, followed by the Colonial Dinner served in the beautiful homes of Washington- Wilkes. The menu includes Corn Chowder with Crackers, Waldorf Salad with Grape Garnish, Orange Glazed Game Hen, Long Grain and Wild Rice, Cranberry Chutney, Baby Squash Casserole, Green Bean Bundles, Biscuits, Cherry Trifle, Chardonnay, and Coffee.

Art and fine crafts in all media will be offered for sale at the Artists Marketplace at the Court Street Livery. The Washington Historical Museum will be displaying the Daniel Bibb Russian Icon Collection throughout the day and Historian Skeet Willingham will be at the Kettle Creek Battlefield to tell about the battle at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m.

A fine collection of World War II planes, handcarved by the late Hollice McAvoy, will be displayed at the McAvoy Museum, along with other artwork.

The Robert Toombs House Historic Site will present a celebration of 75 years of Christmas Melodies from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Cook-off winner Joe Barnett will have his famous Shrimp and Grits available at The Livery from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. Friday and Saturday. Proceeds will benefit Georgia TASC.

The Relay for Life Team will have soup and salad at the Woman's Club, 11 a.m.-1:00 p.m.
