Wrestlers win against Madison, Stephens; three finish well in Mountain tournament

JUNIOR TIGER WRESTLER JOHN LOVVORN PREPARED TO PIN HIS OPPONENT
On Tuesday, November 28, the Washington-Wilkes Tiger wrestlers traveled to Madison County to take on the Red Raiders and Stephens County. The Tigers won six out of eight matches against Madison. Scoring wins for Washington by weight class were:
103: Ryan Scarboro by pin
119: John Lovvorn by pin
125: Derrick Ferris by pin
135: Tyson Gilland by pin
145: Jesse Crago by pin
152: D.J. Willis by a major decision
    (18-8)

Against Stephens County, the Tigers won five out of eight matches. Scoring wins for Washington were:
103: Ryan Scarboro by forfeit
119: John Lovvorn by pin
130: Evan Harrison by pin
135: Tyson Gilland by pin
145: D.J. Willis by pin

A number of J.V. wrestlers also traveled with the Tigers. J.V. winners were:

James McAvoy with two minor decisions

Rob Lovvorn with a minor decision in overtime

On December 1-2, the W-W team traveled to Towns County for the "King of the Mountains" tournament. There were 12 schools competing in the tournament from North Georgia and North Carolina. The Tigers finished fifth as a team despite having only eight wrestlers competing. Tyson Gilland won first place at 135 lbs. John Lovvorn finished second at 119 lbs., and Jesse Crago finished second at 145 lbs. Also scoring points for the Tigers were Josh Cosby at 130 lbs. and Evan Harrison at 140 lbs.

The Tigers hosted a home match on Tuesday, December 5, against Social Circle and Madison County. Complete results were unavailable by press time and will be reported in next week's edition of this newspaper. The team will travel to Clarke-Central on Friday, December 8, to wrestle Clarke-Central and North Oconee. Results from those matches will be in next week's issue as well.
Winning medals at the King of the Mountains tournament were Jesse Crago, Tyson Gilland, and John Lovvorn.
