Wylie receives WJBF Scholar Athlete award
Washington-Wilkes record-setting running back, basketball player, and track star Kelmetrus Wylie has long been recognized for his athletic prowess and now he can add adademic accolades to his resume. He was chosen this week to be singled out as one of the WJBF/NewsChannel 6 Scholar Athletes from the Augusta area and the CSRA. One of only 32 students to receive the honor all year, Wylie will be featured in an upcoming Thursday broadcast of the local news on Channel 6 but the programmers would say only that it would be in the next 4-5 weeks. At the end of the school year, Wylie and other award recipients will be treated to a dinner party and speaker at The Pinnacle Club in Augusta. Students must maintain a 3.0 grade point average and letter in a varsity sport in order to be eligible for the award. On hand for the filming of the presentation in the Media Center at W-WCHS were (l-r) cameraman Rick Krewson; Sherry Saxon, CEO of award sponsor Augusta Metro Federal Credit Union; W-W Athletic Director Russell Morgan; Wylie; W-WCHS Assistant Principal Steve Echols; and (not pictured) Scott Skadan, WJBF account executive.
