Tigers' accomplishments for '06 are many At the conclusion of the Washington Wilkes Tigers' 2006 football season, Head Coach Russell Morgan has pointed out that even though the season ended on a loss (as every playoff team must except for the state champion), there were quite a few accomplishments worth celebrating made by the team and its members. To start with, for the smallest school in Class AA, in its first year moving up to AA, to win the region championship is a feat worth noting. That's what the Tigers did. With a perfect region record (7-0) including defeats of Fannin County and Top Ten-ranked Greene County, WW laid claim to the Region 8-AA crown. Morgan also pointed out several other records set by the 2007 Tigers including: The longest run in school history, 98 yards by Kelmetrus Wylie. The longest pass completion in school history, 90 yards from Clete Wilson to Gary Wilburn. The most points scored by a field goal kicker, Mark Tench. The second most yards rushing in school history, Kelmetrus Wylie with 2,024 yards. The most yards passing since 1969, Clete Wilson with 1167 yards. "And maybe the biggest of them all," Morgan said, "We beat our biggest rivial 3-0." Morgan added his gratitude to all who contributed to the season saying:
"I would like to thank our community for the great support given to our team this season. I would also like to thank our seniors for their dedication and leadership. No one is ever happy when you loose, but looking back on this season, a lot has been accomplished. We started the season having to replace eight starters on defense, six starters on offense while moving up to AA. We had a lot of young players to step up and make great contributions."
