‘Night of Lights’ lighting contest set for Wednesday night, Dec. 20

The annual “Night of Lights” Christmas decorating contest will be judged Wednesday night, Dec. 20.
The Iris Garden Club’s annual “Night of Lights” will light up the homes of Washington and Wilkes County again this year on Wednesday, December 20.

Marcia Paxton says that homeowners who’d like to take part in the club’s annual Christmas decorating contest need to call her by Tuesday afternoon (December 19) to enter.

“If you’ll call me or leave a message at 706-359-2677 by Tuesday,” she said, “you can register your home to be judged Wednesday night.”

This year there will be a new novelty category, she said, with a prize

of $25. “It’s for houses that make you go, ‘WOW.’ Just one prize, winner takes all.”

As always, traditionally decorated homes will be judged in categories for residential one-story and two-story homes. Prizes will be $25 for first, $15 for second place, and $10 for third in each category. Entering homeowners are asked to have their house number illuminated to help the judges find their location.

And as always, the garden club encourages homeowners and businesses all over Wilkes County to light up the night with their Christmas lights.
