2007 Relay for Life planners raise funds with Christmas Tour soups and salads

Volunteers prepare for the Relay For Life fund-raiser and luncheon for Christmas Tour guests.
The soup and salad luncheon and fundraiser sponsored by the 2007 Relay for Life Planning Committee during the Christmas Tour of Homes was a big success, according the Chairman Amy Treadwell.

Use of the Woman’s Club was donated to the Relay Committee for the event and the festive décor set by Cheryl Bentley, the Woman’s Club’s December hostess, made a perfect setting for both local residents and tour guests to relax, dis- cuss the tour and have a sumptuous lunch.

Committee members and volunteers served four types of homemade soup, cornbread, salad, homemade pies, cakes and cookies and beverages. Donations were requested at $7 per person.

“This event is an excellent way to kick off the 2007 Relay for Life,” comments Summer Garrison, Augusta American Cancer Society

partner. A great meal was served to 48 persons as Washington-Wilkes spread the word about its community service work for cancer awareness through the upcoming Relay as well as the wonderful Wilkes County homes available for viewing now and in the spring.

The kick-off celebration for the Relay for Life of Wilkes County will be held Tuesday, January 9, 2007, 6-7 p.m., at the McGill-Woodruff Agriculture Center.
