Here’s another one of Carolyn’s pet peeves – cell phones stuck to everyone’s ears! It must be a fad. People can’t do their grocery shopping without talking on the phone. If you are in the mall, on the highway, in a restaurant or wherever, people have those cell phones at their ears. I can’t cook or drive when I am talking so it’s a good thing I don’t have a cell phone at my ear. You don’t just see adults with their cell phones, but kids have them too. The kids I see with cell phones are about the age I was when I was using two tin cans and a string. The annual Young Farmers Christmas decoration training at the McGill-Woodruff Ag Center last Tuesday night was enjoyed by ladies from all over the Wilkes County area and also Bettye Duke of Louisville, Ky. Table arrangements were made to look like small Christmas trees but with all shapes of Christmas trees. Some were more interested in killing the little bugs that had gotten in the cedar. The arranging instructors were two talented ladies, Debbie White and Laverne Kilgore. Even though some trees were not perfect, fun was had by all. A delicious meal was also served. The arrangements made by Pat Bobo, Kay Tyler, Gloria Harris, and Carolyn Gammon were used at the senior adult luncheon the next day at Tignall Baptist Church. Rev. Jerry Wilson of Central Baptist Church of Augusta entertained at the senior adult luncheon at Tignall Baptist Church Friday, December 8. There were about 50 senior adults attending. All enjoyed the delicious meal and the music and humor of Rev. Wilson. Some people said they were sore from laughing so much. Dave VanHart’s adult Sunday School Class at Tignall Baptist Church enjoyed a Christmas gettogether at the home of Gloria and Layton Harris. They enjoyed the meal and the fellowship. Those attending were, besides the hosts, Gloria and Layton Harris, Pat and Graydon Bobo, Pam and Larry Pullen, Tammy and Danny Price, Tommie and Jack Heard, Beth Hodges, Paula and Gary Butts, Faye and Ernest Lamar, Tina and Dave Van Hart, and Carolyn and Richard Gammon. I enjoyed helping Nobie Keener out at her beautiful home for the tour of homes Saturday afternoon. Her home displayed lots of Christmas greenery. There were so many out-of-town people that I didn’t know, but it was interesting meeting them. I did know and was glad to see Cliffy and Gwin Ware of Evans and Graham and Glenda Smith and son Adam of the Atlanta area. Margaret Fortson visited her brother-in-law, Otis Fortson, and his wife Martha Ann in Anderson, S.C., over the weekend. They went to see the Singing Christmas Tree at the New Prospect Baptist Church in Anderson. On Sunday afternoon they went to Hartwell to a birthday party for nine-year-old Levi Baker, Margaret’s great-nephew. Alex Tyler is doing well after his surgery last Friday. Kay Tyler attended the First Baptist Church in Winder to see their grandchildren in their Christmas program Sunday night. While in Winder, she visited with Ruth Dunaway. Enjoying breakfast with Daisy Parker Saturday morning were family members, Calvin and Betty Whittington of Colbert; Virgil and Emily Whittington of Oglethorpe County; Thomas and Elaine Baker of Westminster, S.C.; Inez Moore, Margie Rogers and Esther Dawson, all of Washington; and Clyde and Sandy Whittington of Rayle. Daisy said they ate on through lunch. Sara Frances Henderson and Pat Mack attended the Garden Club meeting in Beach Island, S.C., last Wednesday. It was held at the home of Tanya Willingham. After the meeting they enjoyed a Christmas dinner. Sara Frances is still a member of this Garden Club. On Thursday, Sara Frances and Pat visited and spent the night with Sara Frances Henderson’s daughter, Frances Johnson who had just returned from England. The senior adults of Beulah Baptist Church enjoyed a shopping trip to Commerce Tuesday. Don’t forget the Christmas programs at all the local churches. The worship choir at Tignall Baptist Church will be presenting the Christmas musical, “Gather at the Manger,” Sunday morning on December 17. The Kids Alive and Kids Alive Too will be performing “Christmas Around the World” Sunday, December 17, at 6 p.m. in the Family Life Center with the annual Christmas party following the presentation. Tabor Baptist Church will have a little change in their regular schedule. They won’t have their regular third Sunday lunch on December 17 since their Christmas program will be presented at 6 p.m.on that day with a covered dish meal to follow the program. On December 24 they will not be having Sunday School that morning but will have their morning worship service at 10 a.m. I found a list of fun things never to give someone else’s kids: a live puppy, or kitten, or fish; a chemistry set; tickets to a rock concert; a

horn or drums. So if you have already gotten these for someone else’s kids, maybe you should consider taking them back. Remember, selfishness makes Christmas a burden; love makes it a delight.
