David Reed Funeral services for David “Dagwood” Reed were held Friday, December 8, 2006, at Cherry Grove Baptist Church, Washington, with Rev. G.L. Avery officiating. Interment was in the City West Cemetery. He died Friday, December 1, at Emory University Hospital, Atlanta. Mr. Reed was a native of Wilkes County but lived in Detroit for a number of years. He was the son of the late James and Parthenia Reid. He worked as a cook for Mario’s Restaurant for 30 years after moving to Detroit and also doubled as a chief valet parking attendant for many years. Survivors include his wife, Janet Reed; seven sons, Ronnie Davis, Michael Reed, Darren Reed, Joseph Banks, Daryl Banks, Rodney Jenkins, and Kevin Mahoney; four daughter, Mary Jo, Delphine, Gwen, and Carolene; two sisters, Carrie Powell and Louise Williams; a brother, Ernest Powell; 34 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Pallbearers included Curtis Avery, Ronnie Davis, Rodney Jenkins, Kevin Mahoney, James Reed, and Mike Reed.
Davenport-McLendon Mortuary Inc. was in charge of arrangements.
