Amberly Aycock and attendants honored at bridesmaids’ luncheon The home of Mr. and Mrs. James F. Mattison III in Lincolnton was the scene of a bridemaids’ luncheon honoring Amberly Aycock and her attendants on Friday, December 1. Hosting the occasion were Mrs. Mark McKinney and daughter, Katherine Britt McKinney, of Simpsonville, S.C.; Mrs. Marcus Spratlin and daughter, Caroline Spratlin, of Lincolnton; and Mrs. Michael Cartner of Rock Hill, S.C. They were assisted by Mrs. John W. Spratlin III and Mrs. Mattison. Miss Aycock chose for the occasion a green beaded sweater and ecru silk pants. Caroline and Katie Britt greeted guests at the front door and invited them into the breakfast room for hot cranberry tea. The table, which held a printed luncheon menu, was decorated with a fresh arrangement of magnolia leaves, Leyland cypress, cedar and holly surrounding a bronze candelabrum holding nine lighted red votives. Other decorations included a Santa collection in the china cabinet and a display of massive red ornaments suspended from the ceiling with red Christmas ribbons. The luncheon was served in the dining room where the bride-elect’s chair was marked with a festive red and gold Christmas bow. The tables, covered with white damask cloths, held red chargers with white napkins embroidered with Christmas gifts carrying out the party theme. Both the dining tables and mantle held matching arrangements of fresh apples, oranges, pears, lemons and limes. Guests enjoyed a luncheon of pork tenderloin medallions with cherry almond glaze, cheese potato bake, whole green beans, Waldorf salad, and rolls. The young guests were offered a choice of the regular menu or a peanut butter and jelly snowman sandwich. Dessert was a pecan brownie torte served with a square of ice cream and wrapped as a gift with marzipan bows, holly berries and leaves. After lunch, guests were invited into the den where Miss Aycock’s gifts to her attendants were placed under the Christmas tree. As she was preparing to present the gifts, a knock was heard at the door and Santa Claus, played by Amberly’s father, Marion Aycock, surprised everyone with an early visit. In Santa’s bag were 12 porcelain gift box ornaments containing notes from her attendants. Each of the attendants had been asked to write something about the bride-elect that was special to them and Santa had each of them read their thoughts aloud. The bride-elect then presented her gifts of jewelry and a CD to the bridesmaids and bride and bridegroom dolls to the children.
Special guests included the brideelect’s mother, Mrs. Marion Aycock, and grandmother, Mrs. Ward Spratlin of Lincolnton; and the prospective bridegroom’s mother, Mrs. James Roberts of Washington, and aunt, Mrs. Thomas Dean Hogan of Richmond, Va.
