Ida Lois Blakey Flynt honored at 90th birthday drop-in party
For her celebration Mrs. Flynt wore a three-piece pants ensemble. The brown pants were topped with a beige blouse and brown, beige and rust jacket complemented by a corsage of fall-colored chrysanthemums. A fall color scheme of gold and green was used in decorating. As guests entered the fellowship hall, they were welcomed by the hosts and hostesses and invited to sign the guest register tended by Mrs. Flynt’s great-granddaughter, Jasmine Cleveland of Washington. Mrs. Flynt greeted her guests seated in her comfortable chair. A large potted palm enhanced the seating area. The main refreshment table, covered with a gold damask cloth, held a delicious assortment of party foods, iced tea and hot spiced tea, all served from silver appointments. Centering the table was a beautiful silver champagne cooler of Red Rover chrysanthemums, Tropicana roses, yellow daisies and snapdragons, greenery and accents of pale pink miniature carnations flanked by green tapers. This arrangement, a gift from grandchildren and greatgrandchildren, Kevin and Carrie Brown, Rachel, Jacob and Riley, and Michael and Morgan Perry and Olivia of Ft. Hood, Texas, was placed in the sanctuary for the morning worship service in honor of Mrs. Flynt’s birthday. Matching flowers in another arrangement, a gift from sister-in-law, Edna Harper Blakey of Tignall, decorated the kitchen-fellowship hall pass through along with a large cornucopia of fresh fruits and gourds. Also on this ledge were pictures of Mrs. Flynt from age 18 until the present. A round table, covered in green with a gold tone-on-tone overlay, was centered with a two-tiered birthday cake iced in a basket weave design and decorated with fall flowers matching the table arrangement. A brass “90” topped the cake that was served by granddaughter, Angie Newby of Blackshear. Celebrating with Mrs. Flynt was a host of family, friends and church member friends. Among the special guests were Mrs. Flynt’s brothers, Charles Blakey and Bobby Blakey, and sister-in-law, Edna Harper Blakey, all of Tignall. Other out-oftown guests included C.G. and Earline Danner of Decatur; Ronnie Blakey and sister, Jeanette, of McBean; Albert and Carolyn Rhodes Jr. of McDonough; R.C. and Barbara Oakley of Hampton; Sarah Newby of Cochran and daughter, Reba Lynn, of Milledgeville; Kay Blakey and Terry Blakey of Augusta; and Corri and Angie Newby, Dillon and Caitlyn, of Blackshear.
Grandson Kevin Brown, serving his second tour of duty in Iraq, attempted to call his grandmother with birthday wishes but was unable to make the proper connections.
