Coe, Harrison, Cosby honored as top runners for W-W cross country

Josh Cosby, Ian Coe, and Evan Harrison received cross country awards at W-WCHS.
Ian Coe, Evan Harrison, and Josh Cosby got top honors as the 2006 Tiger cross country season came to a conclusion with an awards reception for middle school and high school runners held in the media center at W-WCHS December 10. Awards for Most Valuable Runner and Most Improved Runner were voted on by all members of the teams.

Coe was voted Most Valuable Runner.

Even though neither of the Tiger teams qualified to run at the State AA Meet this year, Coe represented Washington-Wilkes well by running in the AA boys’ race as an individual runner. There were 215 boys in the State AA race in Carrollton on November 11. Coe finished 20th with a time of 17:45 on the demanding 5k (3.1-mile course). Throughout the season Coe was consistently the #1 runner for the Tiger boys. He finished 3rd at the Region 8-AA meet which qualified him to run at State. During the season Coe won several races and never finished outside of the top five in the other contests. It was also announced in the Sunday, December 10, edition of The Athens Banner-Herald that Coe has been chosen as a member of the All Northeast Georgia Cross Country Team (second team selection).

Harrison was voted Most Improved Runner.

Harrison has improved, not only this year, but has shown great improvement each year he has partici-

pated in cross-country, according to Coach Steve Echols. Members of the team voted for Harrison because of his work ethic and the way he handled himself all season long. They’ve participated in the same practices and races Harrison has, Echols said.

Cosby received the Coaches Award

“Josh has had a very good attitude this season,” Echold said. “He has been very helpful in making sure things were done when we had meets that were away.”

The W-WCHS team will lose three seniors to graduation this year. “They will be sorely missed,” Echols said.

Taylor Echols completed his seventh season of cross country. He has, for the last two seasons, been the Tigers’ No. 2 runner and has been a very important part of the team’s success in all four of his varsity years. James Cade completed his third year of cross country during which time he has consistently been the Tigers’ No. 3 runner. Jesse Crago completed his first year of cross country competition.

On behalf of the teams, Echols expressed his thanks to all the parents of cross country runners for their support again this season. Special thanks were offered to Lisa Lovvorn, Ann Harrison, Kathy Mc- Cants, James Trim, and Gary Butts for extra help at home meets this season.
