News-Reporter.com website now receives more than 32,000 global visits each month After being on the internet for only a year and a half, the News- Reporter.com website is reaching thousands of people every month – perhaps even more than the print version. “More than a thousand people every day are reading The News- Reporter online, latest site statistics show,” Publisher Sparky Newsome said, “That’s more than 32,000 people every month, and they’re reading and looking at our ads for an average of 10 and a half minutes each. That’s remarkable.” Some 11,000 unique visitors came to the site in November, and 1,900 visited more than once, indicating regular online readership. “In fact, more than 400 readers came to News-Reporter.com to read stories or look at ads ten times each or more during the month,” Newsome said. Although the statistics don’t show exactly where readers are logging in from, most are local, across Georgia, and scattered across the country. But some are visiting from farther away. In November alone, more than 600 people in Western Europe, 220 from Asia, 162 from the Middle East, and 62 people in Australia visited the site. Service members from Wilkes County are getting a touch of home, too. More than 400 visits were logged from military networks like army.mil and navy.mil during the average month. People found their way to News- Reporter.com through search engines like Google. Some searched for “Washington, Georgia,” some searched for specific advertisers in the paper. In November, hundreds of people Googled their way to News-Reporter.com from Bon Jovi fan site, when a story appeared about local songwriter and rising star Hillary Lindsey teaming up to write songs with Jon Bon Jovi and Richie Sambora.
The success of the News- Reporter.com website will be bringing about some changes in the new year. “The cost of maintaining the site, with all the ads, photos, and articles has been substantial, so we will be making access to the web site available through a paid subscription in January,” Newsome said. “Subscribers to the print version of The News-Reporter will get access to the on-line paper at a reduced rate.”
