Learning in Retirement schedules activities for spring quarter of 2007 The Washington-Wilkes Learning In Retirement has scheduled several interesting courses and activities for January, February, March, and April. Some of the courses already announced include the following. January 15, 22 – Reading the Old Testament with Understanding and Awe. January 29, and February – The Foundations of Western Civilization. March 12 and 19 – Finding Bertrim’s Buffalo Lick. March will also feature a historic arts and garden tour to Augusta and details for April activities will be published at a later date. A trip is planned for January 20 to see “Honky Tonk Angels” at the Abbeville Opera House. Plans are to leave the Parish House at 12 noon; have lunch at Yoder’s Restaurant at 1:30 p.m., and see the play at 3 p.m. Return time will be approximately 6:30 p.m. The deadline for making reservations for this trip is December 27. Anyone interested should send payment to Dr. Oliver Myers, P.O. Box 901, Washington. His phone number if 706-678-3918. Cost is $16.00.
A review of the play states that it is presented in more of a revue style as opposed to a traditional piece of musical theater. It gives each of the actresses a chance to s hine on at least two really strong solos as well as a number of medleys. It has a simple plot and message which adds reason and interest to the play without detracting from more than 30 familiar and wonderful songs. Included are “Honky Tonk Angels,” “Stand By Your Man,” “Delta Dawn,” “Harper Valley PTA,” “Amazing Grace,” and many more.
