It’s so nice to get calls from outof town people letting us know how much they enjoy our news. Carolyn got a call from Charlie Turnbull of Athens, not only telling us how much he enjoys reading the Tignall news, but remembering coming to L&L grocery store when he worked with Webb Crawford Company. He says everyone always ended up at the grocery store at lunch time and Bob or Frank would make them ham sandwiches from behind the meat counter. Mr. Turnbull said that Frank Lamar and Bob LeRoy were two interesting characters of Tignall and everyone always enjoyed sitting and chatting with them. He says Tignall kind of reminded him of his home town of Bishop. Speaking of colorful characters of Tignall: how many of you remember Bud Dubose? I remember seeing him when he was in his 80s climb a persimmon tree with Bermuda shorts on and they were flapping in the breeze. He didn’t want to waste electricity so he took the light bulbs out in the house at night. He drove a school bus and he would hit all the holes in those old dirt roads with his hat bouncing up and down on his head. When they put in the caution light in the middle of Tignall, he drove the bus all around the back way of Tignall because he said the light never would change. Carolyn and Richard Gammon enjoyed the Christmas program of the pre-school last Tuesday night at the First United Methodist Church in Washington. Their granddaughters, Kara and Kaci Gammon, performed by singing their little hearts out and doing all the motions. Also attending from Tignall and sitting right behind Carolyn and Richard, were Roy Harrison, Cissy and Clyde Rogers, and Brooke and Myles Dawson, coming to see Whitney Dawson who is also a member of the pre-school. There was a baby dedication Sunday night, December 10, at Mallorysville Baptist Church for six-month-old Cassidy Barnett, daughter of Ginny and Jamie Barnett. All the family members attended for this special occasion. Grandparents attending were Peggy and Jimmy Tanner, Frank and Lou Bentley, Jimmy and Betsy Barnett. Great-grandparents attending were Mrs. Sam Bonner and Mrs. Jack Bentley. Many aunts, uncles and cousins were also there. Joining Layton and Gloria Harris for supper last Thursday night was Bob White of Port Orange, Florida. Linda and Charles Daniel attended the graduation on December 9 of their grandson, Christopher Holloway, from West Georgia University. He received a Bachelor of Music in Education. He will be teaching band at a private school in Rome. Needless to say, Linda and Charles are very proud of him. O’Neil Adams had surgery again on his neck Saturday. Let’s remember him in our prayers. There are many Sam Harris stories out there. We’ve only scratched the surface. If you have one, let us know. Would any of you like to share Christmas memories? Good or bad. Every family has its own memories and traditions. Here are mine. My grandfather, Vince Beard, was a closet Santa Claus! He loved Christmas like no one I now know or have known in the past. When my cousin, Billie Harper Hines, and I were young, he would leave persimmon seed by the windows at his house and down the front walk. He would take us out to see them, making up some story about Santa Claus was at the window watching us and everyone knew Santa Claus loved persimmons. Billie remembers him down under the Christmas tree with his one-piece, red, long-handle underwear looking for his gifts and shaking them. She always wanted someone to paint that scene. It will always be etched in our minds forever. How about sharing your New
Year’s resolutions that you have kept or not kept in the past. Please share them.
