Hiram Stanley Hanson A memorial service for Dr. Hiram Stanley Hanson, 83, of Statesboro will be held Thursday, December 21, 2006, in the chapel of Joiner- Anderson Funeral Home, Statesboro, with Dr. H. William Perry officiating. He died Sunday, December 17, at the Ogeechee Area Hospice Inpatient Facility. Dr. Hanson was a native of Carroll County and was the son of the late Henry Loon and Mary Jones Hanson. He was the widower of Mary Frances Graham Hanson, a native of Washington-Wilkes. He received bachelor and masters degrees in chemistry and geology from Emory University; did post-graduate study in chemistry at Montana State, and received the PhD in geology and geochemistry from the University of Arizona. He joined the Georgia Southern College (Statesboro, Ga.) faculty in 1964 and was instrumental in establishing a geology program. He retired in 1988 as a professor of geology and head of the Department of Geology and Geography.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Maryette and Stephen Rogers of Gunnison, Colorado; a brother, Arnold Hanson, Newnan; and a sister, Frances Arnold of Fayetteville.
