Community’s giving spirit fills many with ‘love and care’ TO THE EDITOR: Christmas is about giving, and I just wanted to express my deepest thanks to everyone who participated in our Operation Love and Care in A Shoebox for the nursing homes. We were so moved by the response of individuals and churches who packed such wonderful boxes. We were able to deliver 60 boxes, 20 to Washington Manor by way of Dr. Joe Harris, and 40 to Wilkes Health Care Center. I will not try to name everyone who donated a box, but I do want you to know that the gift you gave made hearts very glad. It was so touching to help folks open their box and explore all the goodies that were packed inside. They were so appreciative of the effort that showed someone cared for them. We’d like to make this an annual event and hopefully reach the shutins and other homes in the county. Again thank you very much for all your “love and care” which you packed so nicely in those boxes.
